About Karen

Karen Buck is the Labour Parliamentary Candidate for the newly created constituency of Westminster North. She was elected as a Member of Parliament for Regent's Park and Kensington North (Central London) in 1997, and is now standing for Westminster North. Karen currently sits on the Select Committee for Children, Schools and Families, and until recently sat on the Select Committee for Home Affairs.

Karen served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Transport from May 2005 - March 2006 and has more recently been appointed Regional Assistant to the Minister for London.

Karen also chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Citizens Advice Bureau and is a member of the APPG for Palestine and Middle East.

As someone who has always shown a keen interest in housing, Karen sat on the former Mayor's Housing Commission. She is also a member of the London Child Poverty Commission, who recently named her as MP of the Year in recognition of her work to alleviate conditions of young families living in poverty.

Having studied at the London School of Economics, she went on to work for a charity specialising in employment for disabled people and later in the same field at the London Borough of Hackney.
